Huge stores of energy, but very little money
Opinion: What can we do?
Money is the one thing on everybody’s mind on a daily basis. Where can we get more? Is there enough for food this week? Were my parents messing - Does it ACTUALLY grow on trees? Yes, that little piece of paper sure can make us all feel that bit more cheerful.
I think it’s fair to say we’ve all been hit head on by what is happening nationwide, and yet it hasn’t even fully taken flight. It’s just a pile up of bad ideas, bad prospects, budgets and untold government secrets, zig-zagging down a never ending run-way. Unlike our parents, our generation of gizmos, gadgets and all things technical have never really experienced real money problems.
We’ve all heard our parents banter on about our “generation being dog lazy” and not knowing the difficulties that they faced as children growing up in a recession. Well, they are kind of right, but what will we do in the future? NEWSFLASH! Our generation ARE the future. Now, although we’d love to name and blame just a few for this disaster of a country, we won’t. We’ve all seen the horrific clashes with earlier protests in Dublin city centre with students and the Gardai. Are we going to let this continue?
The government have forgotten something - in forty years it will still be our generation and our children suffering from the consequences of today’s actions. Is it fair that the generation that needs to be involved are being forgotten about? Not only are our voices not being heard, but the government wants to give us as little chance as possible by raising the point’s system and college fees?
Now really lads, come on. Have you ever noticed that the majority of TD’S are well into their forties and balding at a rapid pace? And although experience comes with age, imagine a younger government; one that could keep up with the ever flowing environment that we are surrounded by today; one that creates simple solutions to difficult questions; one that learns from its previous mistakes.
We are an ever-growing, smarter generation filled with excitement and a hunger for change. We’re in the right frame of mind to change the economy for good, but the problem is we have huge funds of energy, but very little money. Thanks again government.
In today’s society we are surrounded by the most creative and brightest minds. We thrive on new ideas, challenges and opportunities. None of these quests are achievable without the funds to do so though.
I think I can speak on behalf of the younger generation and say that we are truly outraged at the lack of thought and communication gone into our future. Are we going to sit back and watch our nation plummet future into debt and crisis?
What can the younger voice do? Get involved in whatever way you can: petitions, protests etc. Let your voice be heard and stand up for what you believe in. Every effort brings us that bit closer to our goal: a secure future.
