Hands off our head shops
Opinion: Imagine the Department of Smoke!
It’s gone eleven o’clock and I’ve just finished for the day. Which began way back at 9. Now I’m listening to The Black Parade on YouTube and smoking a joint. Which up until the advent of head shops would have been weed or hash, bought from a friend, who got it from a friend, who worked for someone like the Don - and look how he ended up. Since the head shops were forced to close, I am once again stuck buying it illegally.
A lot of products were available in the heads shops, all legal highs. Pills, powers, herbs. I only ever bought Smoke, that is legal weed. Then again I also knew people who could get me harder stuff that wasn’t legally on sale. Not everybody drinks, not everybody smokes. Some people are serial killers, some are not and I used to go the church, I no longer do and that’s a choice! Stoners are valuable to the economy. The amount of money we spend on food alone...
The Government should legalise weed. Imagine the Department of Smoke: the amount of money they would make! And don’t give me any of that — it’ll increase crime crap! Of course it will. But when you have bank managers being pulled out of bed at 3 in the morning; their family held hostage… and Michael Lynn not paying back ALL those loans. Gangsters are all going to find a way to get money. Just like the Government: which has no idea how food, chocolate, and pizza sales could help the economy. Then there’s tobacco, skins and chocolate. And that’s money that goes back into small businesses and such. Even Biffo got a piece of the pie: head shops were legal, so paid tax and other such legal levies; which was then given to Anglo. Paid for, in part, by stoners. And everyone else.
Of course studies have shown that consuming this stuff is bad for you… from health problems to addiction. But people still go in and eat at fast food outlets. I heard the results of a study on the radio once; high heels was the topic, and all of the women interviewed said they had suffered back problems from wearing them. Yet, when ask why they continued to wear them they again all replied: "I like how I look in them! It’s a lifestyle choice". I don’t support United but I’m not saying you shouldn’t either.
Anything that alters your mind is dangerous — look at beer goggles? You have to be able for it, mentally and emotionally. I’ve never gotten high and thought oh, I can fly now, because I know I’m not a bird or an aeroplane and nothing can ever change that. I’ve never gotten high, lost control and beaten someone up. Never mind what the law says, I just don’t do that.
With the state of the World today, head shops should be the last things on our minds. Only 1% of the world’s water supply is drinkable!
