Valentine's Day is fast approaching
Rant: Not exactly my favourite time of year!
Valentine's Day is fast approaching and once again I'm beginning to feel the dread. Along with New Years Eve, it's my least liked day of the year. Don't get me wrong, I think it’s a great day for loved-up couples, but for those of us not in relationships it's like a nagging reminder of our status as 'singletons'. In every shop we're bombarded with cards and chocolates that we won't be receiving.
I don't think I've ever received a Valentine’s Day card in my life. Depressing, I know. My best friend in school used to get one every year, she was convinced it was from her secret admirer, but it was obvious that it was from her parents. I don't know why I always hope to receive a card from a secret admirer, I mean I know I don't have any but the thought of having one is nice.
Let's face it though, boys these days aren't exactly the most romantic. Well, the one's I seem to go for aren't anyway... (maybe that’s where I'm going wrong!). I actually enjoy being single and am quite happy going on random dates here and there, variety being the spice of life and all that. But there’s just something about Valentine’s Day that makes me wish I was part of a couple and had someone to buy me flowers and make me feel special.
This year I'm torn between a night out with the girls, a night in with the girls or perhaps I’ll opt for a quiet night in with my good friends, Ben and Jerry, and refuse to recognise that this day exists. Not sure what the best option is... any suggestions?
