The sad reality of Irish politics
Opinion: Where are the politicians who serve the people?
I've always been blunt, so here goes. Ireland is a nation without a competent government. The current government cares not for who goes to college, who gets beneficial and humane healthcare, nor who has to sign on the dole every month.
Every Irish government has been the same. I think that the only half-decent government we have ever had was the 1994-97 Fine Gael cabinet.
I believe that those who lead us have only looked after the man with the money. The only ones that get hurt are the poor people and who cares about us? The next generation has to become politically active, to open up our eyes and to see the problems all around us.
Jobs are necessary. Third level fees are not. Bankers who wreck their companies and overfed political 'fat cats' should not get the huge wages and pay-offs that they receive.
Life today is a sad condemnation of modern Irish political society. No one is held accountable. Politicians seem to only care about three things: money, the vote and reputations.
Why else do we have the best paid government in Europe and a Taoiseach on more money than Barack Obama? I am sick of complaining and I am tired of repeating myself.
We need a government that exists to serve the people and not vice versa. I only wish other people agreed with me about that.
How do we really know a new government would change things? For the sake of this sorry excuse of a nation, I hope it will.
