Election, deception, and perception

Opinion: An election alert.

As the prospective pandering vultures/politicians circle and squabble with visceral intent to pick the last morsels and shreds off the rotting carcass of our fallen economy in the name of power and control which now represents democracy, who are we to trust? Should we believe in the hollow promises they make to you and me?!

With the nation surviving on life support (and some can’t even call it survival) these politicians utter sentiments of revival. Well, what will the arrival of new leadership mean when no potential leader is fit to take on the leadership role in this apocalyptic and dire scene? The youth are flying like migrant birds to foreign shores for the hope of happiness found and sought in prosperity. This should not be necessary, but it is the reality that presents itself to the masses. The recession has simply crippled the working classes while those who initiated the political and property madness seem to have gotten out of the madness.

The right to exercise our vote gives us the collective power of ‘we the people’ to excel and expel the demons that have haunted Leinster house. We can herald a new dawn where corruption is not tolerated and bankrupt minds are dead and gone.

The politicians may pontificate about the holes in each other’s policies, but how do they actually propose to recover from the black hole that has swallowed up that old Celtic tiger economy? Will they render us powerless in this dichotomy? Is it really an election of deception? Some politicians can’t even lead reverently in their own alumni, so surely they would cower in the most demanding of hours? Yes, even as they try to indoctrinate one and all with their repetitious rhetoric.

It simply won’t stick; we want real solutions, not spin-doctoring and confusion. Our country calls for absolution. These politicians talk of a new Ireland, almost like the birth of a new nation, but the electorate is derided of all faith in the institutions of governance. An entire nation is sullen with repressed anger, which won’t be dampened through any debate or utterance.

So whoever knocks at your door (and be sure they will!) give them the full emphatic chill of your daily struggle and grind and remind them of their responsibilities to represent you and your needs.

Then exercise your right and vote.
