Illegal downloads, are they really that bad?
Opinion: How can something so good, be so naughty?
I must admit, being that little bit illegal on the Internet gives me the slightest buzz. It’s that thing that keeps me going until my favourite TV programme comes on. Sad you may say, but I really don’t mind.
Many people nowadays hardly purchase music, or at least only have the good intention to buy the odd song off iTunes so they can keep ticking over. Many people just install some software and off they go! People download the latest songs by their favourite artist, at the click of a button. Some argue that, if it’s there, what’s the harm in using it or why do artists make music if all they are interested in is making money out of it, and not coming along for the musical ride.
The big music corporations really need to get their act together and start making money off this ‘free’ scam. Hello? Have these people never heard of advertising? If they had half a brain they would stop bringing companies to court for illegal downloading and start giving them money to advertise with their software! There’s no point in sitting in their big ‘auld leather chairs high up on the 100th floor of a massive building in New York City, when they could be sticking a little box with their name on it, just in the corner of a web page where people can have a look and a curious peek at the website afterwards! Simple business skills are what’s needed and not a wagging finger.
There are things like ad-ware, spy-ware and the occasional virus, popping up on my computer, but I guess that’s the price we have to pay for doing something a little bit naughty!
WWRHD? What would Robin Hood do? Steal from the rich and give it to the poor! That’s what good old Robin would do! I say, get the song and be happy with it. Don’t feel too guilty, and keep jammin’ man!
