Through my eyes

Poetry: I'm here... I'm still me.

Through my eyes,
I see nothing,
There’s nothing to see,
But that doesn’t matter,
I’m here - I’m still me.

Through my ears,
I hear something.
Whenever you cry,
I cannot respond,
I can’t ask you why.

Through my fingers,
I touch you,
And feel I belong,
Why would you hurt me?
I’ve done nothing wrong.

Through my lungs,
I breathe with you.
Whenever you smoke
I don’t understand it,
When I start to choke.

Through my brain,
I am ready,
To dream and to think,
But that will all change,
While you have one more drink.

Through my heartbeat
I can feel you,
I know that you care.
If you don’t protect me,
Who else will be there?

Through my soul,
I can love you,
With all of my heart.
All that I ask,
Is to let my life start.
