Teenager

Express yourself in the fiction and poetry section.

Is a ‘teenager’ not just an age?
It is a number,
Caught between the innocence of youth
And the responsibility of adulthood.
Caught on a cross-track,
Between trains travelling at 200mph.
It is confusing,
Disorientating,
Painful.

It is being pulled in different directions,
All unrelenting,
All at the same time.
It is being unsure,
Lacking confidence,
Feeling fragile.
It is being insincere,
Afraid,
Unforgiving.

Is it a state of mind?
An attitude?
Or a simple personality trait?
Is it a time to be missed?
A time to regret?
A time to forget?

Is it a time when personalities are shaped,
Created,
Given characteristics?

Is it a time of learning?
Or of making mistakes?

Is it a time to be ashamed?
Embarrassed?
Or tired?

It is a time to give up
Or
It is a time to fight for your life.
