For Aoife King
Poetry: Today we've lost a great one.
As I put my pen to paper,
To write the things I feel,
I know I try the impossible,
The anguish inside of me, to heal.
The sun outside my window is shining,
Across the lands and seas that divide us.
My breath here, your broken body there,
My eyes too tired and my heart completely joyless.
I do not have the voice to cry as I would,
Nor the mind to write what I should scream,
Yet I know somehow you’ll hear it all,
I wish things were different and not how they have been.
As I left I took my receiver off the hook,
I knew below the intercom would squeal,
But this was all I could do for you,
To let the world know something was wrong, to tell them how I feel.
They say that life is too short,
And you know this too well my friend,
Today we’ve lost a great one,
But I promise my memory of you will not end.
