Radio broadcaster
All you need to know about becoming a radio broadcaster!
Qualifications/ Experience needed:
As much as possible. Ideally a PgDip in Broadcast Journalism. Although, this isn't as important as real industry experience and contacts.
Your Typical Day:
4am start - check the top national stories of the day - lots of coffee - form first bulletin of the day and keep updating, newsgathering and interviewing until 1pm-usually grab a sandwich and go to meetings/press conferences - fall into bed exhausted!
What do you love about your job?
Its importance - you're delivering news to people and it’s a challenge to get stories fast and accurately. I'm always getting better and moving forward. Oh, and its great craic!
What do you hate about your job?
Dealing with rude people over the telephone and setting my alarm for 4am!!!
How does a young person get started in a career like yours?
Be passionate, committed and aim to be the best. Get as much experience as possible (I started in hospital radio).
