All you need to know about becoming a Human Resources Director!
Qualifications/ Experience needed:
LLB (Hons), MA (Hons), PGDip….yawn...yawn….
Your Typical Day:
Fucking nightmarish…starts at 8.30, finishes around 19.00, eat lunch at my desk, mostly meetings and email…email is 20% of the whole day! Some travelling (usually 1-2 days per week).
What do you love about your job?
The variety, the pace, the politics, the people.
What do you hate about your job?
The hours, having to stay for the US to come online in the evening, grumbling employees, relentlessness.
How does a young person get started in a career like yours?
Get a good college qualification, look for internship opportunities, shamelessly exploit your personal networks, build a professional CV, buy a suit & tie (boring, but it works!), practice interviewing skills, send out hundreds of applications. For the HR profession, the CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel Development) is key; They have great website.
Qualities you need for this job?
Resilience, honesty, to like working with people, sense of humour, interested in how businesses work.
Advice for wannabes:
Do your research, read up on the subject, approach as many people as you can, look at where companies are hiring and think about whether you’re in the right location, get a CV.
