Application forms
Don't miss out on that dream job by making a mess of the application!

If you are asked to complete an application form for a potential job, it's just as important as your CV and must be filled in correctly.
Preparing:
- Read the whole application form carefully before you start writing.
- Make a photocopy of the form so that you don't have to worry about mistakes.
- If you can apply online then do so, it means you won't have to worry about your handwriting. If not, write clearly and neatly- don't try to crush a huge amount of info into a small space!
Filling it in:
- Take your time and use your CV as a reference for all the information about education and work experience.
- Use the job advert to figure out what the employer is looking for (certain skills, qualifications, previous experience, etc) and make sure to highlight these qualities.
- Answer every question- don't be lazy and leave gaps in the form.
Finally:
- Check your spelling and grammar. If you've made mistakes start again with your spare copy of the form or correct them with correction fluid.
- Make sure you post off the form (or apply online) before the application deadline.
- Keep a copy of the application form so that you'll remember what you said in it!
