European Health Insurance Cards

Apply for your FREE card before travelling to Europe.

If you’re travelling abroad this summer for InterRailing, hiking or even a short holiday, you might be pleased to know that you are entitled to FREE healthcare services in other EU and EEA countries. You simply need to fill in an application form and snag yourself a European Health Insurance Card.

The HSE has recently published some info on this topic on their website because they are concerned that some websites have been selling European Health Insurance Cards. These cards are FREE, so steer clear of any person, website or company that tries to charge you for one.

How to get one

If you are an Irish citizen or have been living here for more than a year you are entitled to apply for a card.

Application forms are available at your local HSE Health Office, as well as at the ehic.ie website.
