Package holiday tips

Package holidays are deals in which you buy the flight and accommodation in one package.

Package holidays can be a good option if you don't want the hassle of organising things yourself or if you haven't travelled much and are nervous about setting out alone.

If you want to get lots of sunshine, beach time and partying then package holidays are the choice for you. If you want to really see a country or do things independently then you're best booking your flights and accommodation separately.

You can book package holidays online or from a travel agency. Check out websites like www.lastminute.ie, www.expedia.co.uk and www.latedeals.co.uk. For travel agencies, visit as many as possible to get an idea of which offer the best bargains.

It's essential to know what type of holiday you want before buying a package deal. Do you want non-stop partying and a suntan? Do you want adventure and sport or do you want to relax in a family resort? Check with the travel agency or tour operator about exactly what type of resort your chosen holiday is in.

Find out as much as possible about the country and area you plan to visit. Also search online for the holiday resort. You'll find lots of reviews from people who have taken holidays there or with that company.

Make sure to check that the holiday company you travel with is reputable- this website gives reviews for loads of package holiday destinations and the tour operators offering the holidays.

Most package holiday companies will try to sell you travel insurance: it's worth shopping around to see if you can get a cheaper deal with another company.

Don't forget to pack sun-cream and a good sense of humour- package holidays aren't always as they appear in the brochure!
