Hinduism is the third biggest faith in the world and is not a single, unified religion (it's a group of faiths) and there is no one prophet, founder (someone who started the religion) or single important teacher. It has hundreds of prophets (Rishi) who have taught spirituality through history.
- Hinduism is more than 3000 years old although parts of the religion are much older than that. It was started near the river Indus in what is now India.
- Hindus (people who practice Hinduism) believe in a cycle of birth, death and rebirth (reincarnation) that is controlled by Karma. It means that everything we do has a consequence and so if we do something good then something good will happen to us (and the same with bad stuff).
- Hindus believe in a God or universal soul called Brahman. Brahman is the cause and foundation of existence.
- There are also other Gods (or deities) in Hinduism such as Krishna, Shiva, Rama and Durga.
- The knowledge of God is passed through scriptures (religious texts) called the Vedas. There are also other important religions texts in Hinduism.
- Hindus often have shrines (that can be a picture, alter or a room) in their home where they worship and make offerings to the Gods.
