Transgender support

Check out TENI's great info.

Transgender Equality Network Ireland (TENI) is Ireland’s one and only transgender organisation. It works to support, educate and advocate for all transgender people in Ireland. As part of its work, it also networks with other LGBT charities in Ireland.

TENI’s vision is of an inclusive Ireland, one where all transgender people are accepted and understood. The charity was set up in 2005 and was registered as a guaranteed company in 2010.

Even though there has been some progress in Ireland in recent years, many transgender people in Ireland still have to deal with transphobia, discrimination and stigma on a regular basis. They also often do not receive the same access to healthcare and employment/educational opportunities.

TENI works to help transgender people in Ireland via:

  • Support. TENI offer various support services for transgender people and their families, such as The Irish Trans Group Alliance meetings in Cavan, Cork, Dublin, Galway, Limerick and Waterford; the use of a development worker who can point you to groups and services in Ireland; lists of doctors and clinics in Ireland with Gender Identity Experience and a variety of links to other services in Ireland.
  • Advovcacy. TENI actively campaigns for the rights of transgender people in Ireland, and lobbies legal, medical, societal and political groups and structures, with the aim of improving the rights and general quality of life of transgender people.
  • Education. TENI runs workshops, talks and training for a variety of organisations, with the aim of creating greater understanding of transgender issues in Ireland.
  • Capacity Building. TENI works with other voluntary and statutory organisations to strengthen the services that transgender people are offered. The organisation also works to strengthen the transgender community in general.

TENI is a member of LGBT Diversity and participates in the Your Rights, Right Now campaign, the Equality Rights Alliance and the HSE LGBT Health Advisory Committee.
