Bisexuality

Loving the lads and the lassies.

What is bisexuality?

Not everyone is straight or gay. Some people may feel attracted to more than one sex or some people may have relationships with both sexes.

Being bisexual means you are attracted to both men and women. Many straight people may find the same sex attractive at times, but a bisexual person experiences this feeling on a more regular basis. Being bisexual does not mean you are attracted to men and women equally, but it does mean you are attracted to both on some level.

The strength of your feelings towards either sex may change over time and you can be bisexual and be abstinent OR be bisexual and sexually active. You may be in a stable relationship with one sex, but meet the opposite sex at times too.

Many people fancy someone of their same sex at some point in their lives, or even have an experience with another sex. This doesn’t mean you are bisexual. However, when these feelings continue or happen more often then it may mean you are bisexual.

It is totally normal to be bisexual and there are even some scientists (such as the late Alfred Kinsey) who think that every human is bisexual to some degree; it just may or may not be expressed. After all, the rate of bisexuality is almost 100% in some tribes around the world.

Like the gay pride flag, there is also a bisexual pride flag.

Enjoying  being bi:

  • If you’ve had relationships with both sexes and you get involved with someone new, be honest about your sexuality.
  • You will probably fancy people who are straight and people who are gay.
  • If you decide to have anal sex, then use extra strong condoms. You can buy condoms that are made especially for anal sex.
  • You should also use condoms or mouth barriers for oral sex to prevent the risk of sex infections. Remember: sexual infections are a risk for everybody: gay, straight and bisexual.
