Scabies

Condoms are the ONLY form of contraceptive that protects against sexual infections.

Scabies are small mites that burrow under your skin and cause irritation. They are spread by close body contact, including sex. Scabies can also pass via shared clothes or bedding.

What are the symptoms?

  • It can take a few weeks for symptoms to appear and often they are not visible.
  • You experience intense itching that is worst at night.
  • A rash or small bumps appears on the body, especially on the penis, between fingers, on the bum, breasts, wrists, thighs and belly button.

What treatment can you get?

Visit your doctor to have scabies diagnosed. The infection can be treated with prescription medicine. Everyone in close contact with the infected person should be treated at the same time. Wash all clothing, towels and bedding.

How can you prevent scabies?

The best way to prevent scabies is to avoid sex with an infected person and limit the number of sexual contacts you have.
