What are sex toys?
Sex toys are objects or devices that are designed to give people sexual pleasure or enhance sex play. There are many types of sex toys around, from vibrators; (such as the infamous Rampant Rabbit popularised by Sex and the City) to dildos; to butt plugs; to cock rings. Some toys are even remote controlled! Basically, there are lots and lots of different types to choose from, if you’re looking to buy. You can purchase them online (the preferred method of shy people) or in sex shops.
Sex toys have actually been used since the 1800’s. They were not called that then, but doctors used them to treat what was then dubbed ‘female hysteria’.
Why use them?
Many people find that sex toys really spice up their sex life and create excitement, since they add something different to the experience. Also, some people find that sex toys give them intense sexual pleasure. Sex toys can also be a way to stimulate the clitoris so that women can orgasm, since many women do not through sexual intercourse.
Keeping it safe:
Wash all toys before use. You can use antibacterial soap or liquid as well as a soft cloth on most toys. If you are sharing sex toys with your partner, it is even more important that the toys be kept clean. After washing, leave to air dry. Silicone sex toys can be boiled in water in the stove for a few minutes or be put in the dishwasher – though that may make for an interesting conversation with a flatmate or sibling! Do not use any detergent if you are putting them through the dishwasher, and make sure all batteries are removed.
Using condoms on sex toys will also go a long way towards keeping them clean. If blood is spilt onto a sex toy, make sure to wash it carefully and to use a mix of bleach and water to clean it thoroughly. Then, rinse and rinse well so as to make sure bleach does NOT come into contact with your body.
