Wet dreams
Wet dreams are a normal part of puberty.
What are wet dreams?
Wet dreams are a normal part of puberty. They are thought to be caused by the body trying to release a build up of hormones.
When a boy or girl ejaculates (cums or orgasms) they release a small amount of fluid. Ejaculation can happen during masturbation or when you are sleeping. This ejaculation is called a wet dream and teenage boys often have wet dreams. It’s more common for boys to get wet dreams than girls.
Usually boys notice when they have a wet dream because it’s messy. It is less noticeable for girls and you may not realise if you have a wet dream at all.
You should never feel guilty about having a wet dream. They have nothing to do with your sexual preferences nor does it mean you’re sexually active. Wet dreams are subconscious and can be about taboo subjects like sex in public, rape, group sex, incest or sex with an older person.
This does not mean that you want these things to happen or are excited by taboo subjects. Wet dreams are just your hormones finding a healthy release!
