Anal sex
Some people think anal sex is the best thing since sliced bread.
What is it?
Anal sex is a type of sex where the penis penetrates the anus. Many straight, gay and bi sexual people enjoy it. There is a myth out there that only gay men do it; but in fact many gay men do not do it AND many straight couples enjoy it a lot.
Why do it?
The anal area is filled with nerves and can be more sensitive than the penis, vagina or clitoris. Therefore, some couples find anal sex extremely stimulating and pleasurable.
Keeping it safe:
The anus is home to a variety of bacteria, which live quite harmlessly there, but can cause trouble if they get into your mouth or stomach. Dental dams are recommended if a person is orally stimulating the anal area. As regards anal sex itself, a person should never go from anal sex to vaginal sex without washing the penis first, as bacteria could be transferred into the vagina and cause an unpleasant infection.
Also, because the skin is thinner and bleeding is more likely, anal sex is more risky in terms of STI’s than vaginal intercourse. Therefore, a person should make sure to always use a condom for anal sex.
Keeping it enjoyable:
The vagina is kept moist by its own secretions, but the anus does not produce any fluids to keep it moist. Therefore, in order to keep anal sex comfortable, people need to use lots of lubricant. You can buy lubricants in any chemist and in many supermarkets.
Most people have to gradually warm up to anal sex. Many people prefer to experiment with touching and pleasuring the anus (rimming) or receiving oral sex on their anus (analingus) before considering having anal sex. Slow and gentle is how anal sex has to be.
Like with all forms of sex, if you are not happy, stop. Some people think anal sex is the best thing since sliced bread, whereas others try it and find they hate it. Still others have no desire to try it at all.
