Natural Methods and Withdrawal
Natural methods mean avoiding sex or using another type of contraceptive on the days when a woman is fertile (when she can become pregnant easier).
Natural Methods of contraception do NOT protect against sexually transmitted infections.
This is NOT a good option for young people.
In natural methods, body temperature and changes are recorded every day to monitor when the body is most fertile. This method does not offer good protection against pregnancy and takes a long time to learn properly.
Some people think that withdrawal is a safe natural method of contraception but it's NOT. Withdrawal means removing the penis from the vagina just before the semen (cum) starts coming out. This method should never be used as it does NOT protect against pregnancy or sexually transmitted infections. Small amounts of semen can leave the penis during sex without either person realising it, making withdrawal very unreliable.
Advantages of Natural Methods:
- There are no harmful side effects.
- Natural methods are accepted by all faiths and cultures.
- It is completely natural.
However:
- Natural methods don't protect against sexually transmitted infections.
- You must be very committed and understand your body very well for natural methods to work.
- Natural methods take time to learn.
- If your periods are irregular or you are stressed or ill, natural methods don't work.
