Complaining about the Gardaí or Police:

  • You might want to make a complaint if you think you've been treated rudely, with too much force, they acted unfairly or any of the rules of arrest and custody have been broken.
  • If it's a minor complaint you will be given an explanation or apology.
  • For serious complaints, legally there must be an investigation.
  • Contact the Police Ombudsman in Northern Ireland or the Garda Ombudsman in Ireland.
  • You have the right to make a complaint, whether the difficulties you face are in school,in a care home or anywhere.
  • Further information can be found at The Irish Association of Young People in Care and www.childrensrights.ie
