How's your text life?
Imagining life without a trusty mobile phone is enough to bring the toughest person out in a cold sweat.
Millions of texts are sent every day in Ireland and it has become a key means of communication for most of the population. There are so many benefits to texting that it’s impossible to escape the lure of those tapping fingers. And of course, text flirting is a brilliant way to catch the attention of someone you fancy. Here we spill the beans on why text flirting is great and the flirtation risks you’ve gotta watch out for:
New found confidence
You can say things through text that you wouldn’t be brave enough to say face to face. Text messages are one of the easiest ways to flirt. Not only do you have time to think of what to say, but after a text conversation it is always easier to speak to someone in person. You can also get away with saying things that would make you blush if you were to say them in person. (Need I explain any further?!)
Anywhere, anytime
Unlike making a call, you don’t have to be in a private place to say whatever you want. The best thing about texting is that you can do it anywhere: at home, on holidays, at a friends, etc. You also don’t have to worry about anyone overhearing what you’re saying, which can save you much embarrassment
Cheap
If you are on the same network as your fellow flirt you might even be able to text for free, at most it only costs a few cents.
The downfalls of text flirting
Oops…
It’s so easy to send a flirty little text to the wrong person. I really don’t think this needs much explanation as we’ve all experienced the horror of sending a text someone by accident. Who doesn’t know the shame of sending a saucy message that was meant for Darren (or the female equivalent) to your Dad. Make sure you avoid this by checking and checking again before you press send.
Alcohol and texting
Anyone who has consumed alcohol will know that text messages and alcohol go hand in hand. There’s nothing worse than waking up the morning after with a hangover from hell and a zero credit balance. You read through your Outbox with horror and see that you have told your crush that you love them and want to have their babies. To avoid this, try not to contact the love of your life drunk or at least send them sober texts as well. There is nothing romantic about receiving a drunken text every weekend, especially if you haven’t heard from the person all week.
Texts can be misinterpreted
Text messages can be misinterpreted as text-speak is confusing. Try not to fit everything into one message and keep things simple. It is easy to get carried away with flirting when you don’t have to speak face to face so don’t say anything that you will later regret.
The waiting game
The time between sending the message and receiving a reply often feels like a lifetime. But the time limit you leave between texts is as important as what you say. Text back too soon and you risk looking desperate and or like a ‘bunny boiler’ but leave it too long and you could blow things altogether.
Let your fingers do the talking….
Once you have mastered text flirting, it’s great. If you feel your text relationship needs to move onto the next level, pick up the phone and make that call. Now that the ice is broken, speaking on the phone is so much easier. Good luck and enjoy that textual flirtation!
