Fitting in

Youth Voice: Can anyone tell me what 'the crowd' is?

I know plenty of groups of people but none of them are called 'the crowd'. I know that most young people dream of being cool and fitting in. People become so worried about fitting in that they loose their own identity.

Peer pressure is all over the place in the lives of today’s youth. But why? Is it because one person feels the need to have control over a group of other people? Could it be that some people were born oppressors, intent on bullying people for their own satisfaction. I can’t see how anyone can enjoy abusing other people.

One very important point: BE YOUR OWN PERSON.

There is only one of you and there will never be another like you so don’t try and fit a stereotype, it’s just not worth it. If people can’t accept you for who you are then they definitely aren’t worth it.  Why should you let others enjoy themselves by hurting or controlling you?

Stand up and be counted. You don’t need to be in a crowd to look cool. I’ve survived all my life without being in one. I have a group of friends and that’s all I need.
