Family
Get sussed on family survival.
Family means something different to everyone. You might be a teenage mum or dad, come from a one-parent family or be from a family of mixed nationalities or religions.
It doesn’t matter what sort of family you have and whether you love them, or they wreck your head; the fact is that family is an important part of our lives.
At different times, family can be a complete pain in the hole or the best thing ever. When you desperately want to go to a music festival that’s the same weekend as some remote cousin’s wedding, you might have all sorts of evil thoughts about your family. But when a family member is there when you need to talk or they help you out with personal problems, it’s a different story.
Keep your cool- family communications!
- Try to listen to the other person's point of view, even if you don't agree with it.
- Be respectful (even if the other person is not). Don't resort to cursing, shouting or put-downs.
- Try to let the other person finish before you have your say.
- Make your point as clearly as you can.
- Choose a good time to discuss touchy subjects.
- Be as open and honest as you can.
- Be reasonable. Ask for what you want, but accept that sometimes it is not possible or practical.
- Communicating well means telling each other in an open and honest way what you think - the good and the not so good.
