Experiencing grief

True life: Everyone's grief is different and we all have different ways that help us.

Article by : SpunOut.ie

Dealing with grief is something most of us will have to deal with at some point in our lives. Everyone’s grief is different and we all have different ways that help us.

For me it’s like the ocean, the waves are always there sometimes they just roll in really huge and other times it’s calm and kind of manageable. The weirdest moments or things can really set you off, it could be a dream you had, a certain flower, item of clothing or smell.

What ever it is that is making you feel really sad it’s important to go with it and let it out, cry, scream or do whatever you can to let that sadness out. Grieving for the person you have lost is really the most healing thing you can do for yourself. Everyone will tell you what to do or how you will feel but they don’t really know, as it’s unique to every person.

I find grief is quite private; a lot of the time I just want to be curled up by myself, as long as I know someone who cares about me is near by. Talking about the person you have lost helps as does being around people who loved or knew that person too.

There are lots of different things that can help you: exercising, praying, church, nature… Whatever it is, it’s very important to go through the emotions and not to block them out.

At the same time remember to have some fun and laughs, as your loved one would want you to be happy.
