When it comes to security matters, some people are very careful and really worry about it, while others are pretty lax about the whole thing. You might be a person who worries about safety and keeping your home secure may be really important to you. On the other hand you might be a person who never gives it a second thought and walks out of the house without locking it half the time. Whether you are worried about safety or just wanna make sure you are being security conscious, here are some top tips from SpunOut.
- Lock the doors of your house or flat when you go out. Also lock them at night but make sure everyone knows where the keys are.
- If a sales person or maintenance person arrives, ask them for identification before letting them in.
- If someone you don’t know or don’t feel comfortable with asks to use your phone, leave them outside, close the door and make the call for them. Or carry the phone outside to them if it’s a mobile or portable.
- Never let anyone know the times that you are alone at home.
- Close the curtains at night, it gives privacy AND saves money on heating.
- When you are arriving home always have your key in your hand so you can get inside quickly. Do the same when getting into your car.
- If you get abusive, threatening or unwanted calls, hang up immediately.
- If you think that someone has been in your home or someone has tried to enter then call the Gardaí or police right away.
- Arrange for someone to collect your mail and turn the lights on and off when yotheu are away on holidays.
