Natural treatment for acne

Natural diet and lifestyle changes.

Article by : SpunOut.ie

From a naturopathic point of view, acne is seen not just as a skin problem but as a symptom of internal imbalance in the body, that is reflected on the skin. The skin is an organ so it reflects the current state of health.

The health advice in this article is intended to act only as a guide. It is not to be treated as a substitute for medical advice from your family doctor or any other qualified practitioner.

Acne can be caused by stress, hormonal changes, gut dybosis, polycystic ovarian syndrome, allergies, cosmetics and poor elimination of toxins in the body. So it is important to treat the condition internally as well as externally.

Try these diet and lifestyle changes:

  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Eat three servings of oily fish a week.
  • Eat plenty of fresh organic (to avoid nasty chemicals that can disrupt your hormones) fruit and vegetables every day.
  • Increase the amount of vitamin A you get. It's found in all yellow fruits, and vegetables and carrots are loaded with it. It is also present in high amounts in dairy foods and organ meats.
  • Increase the amount of zinc (it helps boost the immune system and helps your body absorb vitamin A) in your diet. It's found in pumpkin seeds, shellfish and wheatgerm.
  • Take up stress busting hobbies such as yoga or meditation.

Useful supplements to beat acne:

  • Fish oils
  • Flaxseed oil
  • Wheatgerm

Useful herbs to beat acne:

  • Agnus Castus

Homeopathy treatments:

  • Ask in your local health food store about suitable treatments (and how to use them) for acne.
  • Kail Brom (6c) if the acne is worse on your chest, shoulders and face.
  • Belladonna (6c) for inflamed pimples.
  • Silicci (6c) for scarring acne when pimples are slow to clear up.
