Remember that if you're sick, you should always go to a doctor and tell them if you are using natural remedies. It's always useful to have some herbs and natural remedies at home. There's lots of cheap, free and easy ways to help you look and feel good without using pharmaceutical drugs. Here's some:
- Keep stuff like garlic, lavender oil, herbal teas and tea tree oil in your kitchen for when you're feeling a bit off.
- Period Pain: Evening primrose capsules. Also evening primrose oil rubbed into your tummy in circular motions is a good way to relieve pain.
- Premenstrual Tension (PMT): Sage tea and Fennel tea.
- Cold/Flu: Vitamin C (from oranges/lemons), garlic, honey, sleep and lots of water.
- Exhaustion, stress, anxiety: Physical exercise and relaxation techniques e.g. meditation, yoga and positive visualisation techniques can all help.
- For stress, worry and panic: Bach's Rescue Remedy, 4 drops under the tongue or in a little water. You can also take B vitamins on a regular basis.
- Insomnia and restlessness: Drinking camomile tea and rubbing lavender oil in to the temples of your forehead.
- Hay Fever: Teaspoon of honey 3 times a day.
- Headaches: Drink lots of water and avoid drinking alcohol, caffeine and tea. Rubbing lavender oil into the temples, relaxing and drinking camomile tea.
- Acne: Tea tree oil dabbed on spots daily. Cleaning your face in salt water and using primrose water as a toner for your skin keeps it under control.
- Nausea while travelling: Ginger capsules before travelling.
- Concentration and alertness: Burning Rosemary oil in an oil burner, the smell makes you more alert and able to concentrate easier.
- Brain power, learning and memory: Omega 3, which you find in fish, nuts and seeds.
- For dry hair: One egg, one teaspoon of honey and two teaspoons of olive oil and apply to wet hair. Cover with cling film and leave for 30 minutes before shampooing. You can also mash an over-ripe avocado and work through dry hair and then wash out till clean.
- For dandruff: Rub Aloe Vera gel into your scalp and leave for 5 minutes before shampooing.
- For oily hair: Squeeze the juice of 2 lemons in a litre of distilled water and use to rinse hair after shampooing.
- Most of the things you need should be available in health food shops or in the health food section of your local supermarket.
