Dealing with self harm
Would you like some help to reduce or stop?
Pieta House, the Centre for the Prevention of Self-Harm works to help those dealing with suicidal feelings or impulses and/or self harm.
Pieta House’s philosophy on self harm is that many people use it as a way of communicating their pain and distress, when it seems there is no other way. People self harm because they are unable to express or verbalise their pain, worries or anxiety in any other way.
The centre works with people to help them to verbalise their emotions and to express themselves in a less harmful way. Instead of turning the pain inwards and physically hurting themselves, Pieta House tries to get self harmers to talk about and work through their pain. The centre also offers very practical help by helping you to identify triggers for self harm and to come up with alternatives for self harming.
They can also work with your family and friends and help them to understand the type of support you need from them.
If this sounds like it may be helpful to you and you’d like to find out more, phone Pieta House on 01 60100 00 or email mary@pieta.ie. The service is FREE and completely confidential.
