A beautiful place

They can never take our minds.

There is a place only I know about. It is filled with my most prized possessions: my memories, my thoughts. Here, my wildest dreams are a reality and my deepest fears are fiction. This is a place filled with every colour of the spectrum, a calm place where worries and sadness are non-existent. A place where problems are laughed about. Where my childhood self plays on the swing in the park carelessly.

There is a place only I know about. Wild animals roam freely here, without fear of man or hunter. The sky shines a radiant blue and the sun sits happily, always. The grass is a mixture of bright patterns of green. It blows with a carpet-like texture in the mid-summer breeze. Science and religion are one here and the laws of physics do not apply. It is a place where man never invented guns or used nuclear power for evil.

This place consists of a vast open space larger than time and space itself. Its power is so strong that it pulls you in, in an instant. It’s where I can leap through constellations and leap through the stars. It’s where my enemies become my friends and where romance flourishes. Where young and old are just a number and death just a dream.

I am the commander of this place, controlling my realm. It is a place I go to seek refuge when the world around me begins to collapse. It is a place I go to scream as loud as I like or dance as free as my body allows me to; or I can simply sit there and gather my thoughts. It is safe and warm and I am happy in this place. It makes me feel important in the vast, fast-paced world we live in today.

I have a beautiful mind. It is filled with creativity, emotions and feelings. It holds the secrets to the special universe where I am the almighty controller. I have the ability to take good in and throw evil out. It is a portal of all that I am, telling me right from wrong, up from down. It gives me a sense of motivation in life and drives me to success. It is a realm full of depth and meaning. It is part of a series of special links connecting to my heart. It bursts with enthusiasm and allows my thoughts to travel endlessly. It expands with my knowledge and feeds on wisdom. It warns me when I’m in danger and helps me seek faith when I need it most. It is a mish-mash of exploding colours and patterns creating an internal masterpiece in my head: an artist’s paradise.

My mind houses my most cherished memories and my future hopes. It orchestrates the symphony of consciousness that gives me purpose, passion, motion and emotion. Over my life time I will get to know this place more - the food it likes, the challenges it craves, the rest it requires; the protection it deserves. It has the unique capacity to focus on the non-present, the ability to reflect on the past, to plan for the future and to imagine things that might never happen. My mind is a complex computer that is capable of controlling my surroundings. To keep this place beautiful requires a balance of clean living, social skills, faith, education and fun. I must constantly remind myself not to take it for granted. After all, I’ll only have this place for just one lifetime.

It is vital to have a positive outlook on life and the things around me in order to satisfy the mental health of this place. When this beautiful place is happy and well it gives me a structured frame of mind and well being. It’s important for me to keep this sanctuary safe and healthy as I grow. I must always be cautious and responsible in order to use this beautiful place properly. We've heard the old saying: 'The sky’s the limit'. Well maybe it should be: 'The mind’s the limit'.
