Help tackle mental health stigma
You can make a difference in ensuring that mental health issues are better understood.
Mental health and stigma - how you can make a difference:
One in four people will be affected by mental health issues at some point in their lives. Even if you do not experience mental health problems personally, it is likely that one of your family members, friends, colleagues or neighbours will.
This means that these issues impact everyone and we all have a role to play in helping to remove the stigma associated with mental health problems.
Headline, the national media monitoring programme, works to promote responsible and accurate coverage of mental health and suicide in the media. You can support Headline’s work and help tackle stigma by speaking up about how mental health problems are portrayed by the media.
The media has a key role to play in helping to challenge the myths and misconceptions that surround mental health issues and promoting greater awareness of mental health problems. By encouraging positive coverage of mental health issues and by challenging negative coverage, we can help reduce the fear and misunderstanding of mental heath issues.
