Confidence & shyness
Tips on sounding more confident!
There's nothing worse. That feeling of heat as a blush rises up from nowhere and turns your face into a shiny tomato. It might be in an attempt to flirt with someone, a tricky interview question or even something as simple as talking in front of your class.
But there are always some people bursting with confidence, ready to break down any obstacles and get what they want. What's their secret? Well, believe it or not, many outgoing people feel shy on the inside. They just have a different way of dealing with it than you do.
Others sometimes use alcohol or drugs to overcome their shyness. Bad idea: the confidence from being drunk or high doesn't last very long and you're more likely to embarrass yourself than improve your self-confidence.
Tips on sounding more confident
Try the following tips to sound confident. Hopefully, after a while you'll realise that you feel as confident as you sound!
- Choose a good time to get chatting with someone. Don't break into a conversation that is fully in swing to start a different one.
- Think of another time when you felt confident and happy. Try to relive those feelings and act as you did then.
- Once the conversation is moving, be a good listener. It's a great way to build trust.
- Keep asking questions. People love talking about themselves and will think they had a great conversation if you show real interest in their lives.
- If you concentrate on the other person and become genuinely interested in the conversation, you'll forget about shyness!
- You don't have to be the loudest person at the party to enjoy yourself. Remember there's nothing wrong with being quiet and everybody likes a good listener.
