Work that smile

Available without prescription: a kind smile or laugh!

Article by : SpunOut.ie

In this increasingly hectic world, where we are spending more time than ever working and trying to buy our way to happiness and the appreciation of others, many of us have forgotten what smiling is or even how to smile or enjoy a laugh.

If you don’t believe me then the next time you are in town doing your shopping, while at work, or just going about your day; go ahead and count the number of people you see smiling.

Smiling is contagious, costs nothing and the Government haven’t found a way to tax smiles…yet. If you bring more laughter into your life, you can make others feel better too and unlike Norway, you can’t be arrested for sharing a chuckle in public!

Research shows that smiling and laughter turn off the stress hormones caused by anger and tension. Smiling boosts the immune system by increasing antibody production which protects us from sickness, bugs and flu’s. Smiling also triggers the release of endorphins, which are pain killing substances produced by your own body. A good belly laugh exercises your stomach muscles, contracts the abdomen and even works out the shoulders, leaving your body more relaxed afterwards.

Research has found that four year olds smile and laugh about 400 times a day while for adults, smiles and laughter can decrease to an average 15-20 times a day.

Surely we should all give ourselves a big generous rise in the smiling department and learn not to take this short but precious life so seriously.
