Greasy hair
Beat the grease with regular washing.
What is greasy hair?
When hair appears or feels oily it is often called 'greasy' hair.
The low down on why hair become greasy:
There are a lot of different reasons as to why hair may appear greasy, including diet, lifestyle, hormonal changes and your hair care routine. Every hair has its own oil gland, which is what keeps your hair shiny and healthy.
However, as with acne, your hormones can produce a lot of oil making your hair look more chip shop than glossy. Hormonal changes during teen years can lead to both greasy hair and greasy skin. Of course, if you don’t wash your hair for weeks on end, the grease will build up then as well!
Tips for sorting out greasy hair:
- Wash your hair regularly (daily /every other day) to keep greasy locks under control.
- Some shampoos are created especially for greasy hair, try them out but remember that regular washing is the most important thing.
- Wash your hair with warm water and a small amount of shampoo.
- Don’t abuse your hair: leaving your scalp red from scrubbing isn’t going to get rid of oil and might irritate your skin.
- Rinse your hair well and use conditioner on the ends if you like. If you use styling gels, lotions or creams then look for oil free products.
