Dance fever

Does dancing get you hot and bothered?

Article by : SpunOut.ie - Rating :

Some people have an attitude that if you go out, you have to either pull or get absolutely hammered to have a good night. This is nonsense. One, you don't have to be drunk, now I'm not saying you have to be stone cold sober either, but it doesn't really affect the happenings of a night; and two, who says you need to pull? Fair enough if you do- woohoo! If you don't, then enjoy the chase and your present company!

However on a night out there is one sure fire way to enjoy yourself to the max, get the adrenaline pumping and just have a laugh. Yes, I'm speaking of that exotic and somewhat elusive act of dancing!

There is no better natural high, or way to enjoy a night than to just bite the bullet and get out on the dance floor. But the music's rubbish I hear you cry - try a different club. But, but there's no one else on the floor – okay you don't need to go up there on your own, however you can bring a mate and start the night with a bang!

Once you have the right beat to get yourself going, just head out on the floor and do it. It really is the makings of a good night. What are the other options? Spending the night in a smoking area or leering at everyone else on the floor; sounds good doesn't it?! I guarantee you, once you get on with the boogy woogy you will realise A) it is the easiest place to bump into someone or catch someone's eye, B) that the ones not dancing are ogling at you, and C) that you’re having a great time.

There really is no better way to spend a night out, I mean what is the point of paying around €8 into a club to only stand drinking or chatting? You don't have to pay to do that in a pub. Yes, the nightclub is a place to show your wares and just have a laugh. Be it a group of you going mad to one song or just you roving the floor and enjoying the craic. It amazes me that some people will not go on the dance floor without a friend, even when it is mobbed. I find this to be the best part of a night, when you don't have to dance with specific people, but you can just have a good auld gawk and do what you want!

So what are the boundaries?

I can't dance
Bull, everyone can dance, some at different levels but even if it means going out on the floor and just waving your arms around, jumping up and down or shaking your booty, it’s worth doing. Trust me as much as you may think it, not everyone is looking at you and judging your dancing. Quick tip: Wait until the floor is busy then head on down, very little chance of you being seen, and then just pick someone and start copying their moves until you get into your own rhythm.

My friends don't want to go on the floor and I don't want to go alone.
Okay there's a few things you can do here. Personally, I'd get new friends but that's not always the best solution. Quick tip - Find an area near the dance floor and start dancing there. Obviously don't make any major moves at this stage, eventually your friends will warm up and when the DJ plays a really great song they will hopefully be buzzing enough to run onto the dance floor thanks to some gentle persuasion from you.

Dancing is fun, its GREAT exercise and is a good way to get the heart pumping on a night out.

So what's my attitude? Never say never, and it’s defiantly not a good night out unless you danced.
