Diversity rocks
One of the coolest things about living in Ireland or the UK is the cultural diversity.
Mixing with lots of different religions, nationalities and traditions is exciting…if we’re open minded enough to accept “difference” as a good thing.
Why is diversity great? Well, without it we’d all be the same and we would have to travel to really get a taste of different ways of living, different food, different music and different beliefs.
What about your local Chinese restaurant? Do you take classes in yoga, tai chi, Italian cookery or salsa dancing? Do any of your friends have a different cultural or religious background to you? These are obvious examples but if we didn’t have cultural diversity here in Ireland then none of this would be possible.
People from different countries, cultures, backgrounds or religions all use their own experiences and views of the world to add colour and knowledge to life in Ireland.
If we want our lifestyles to continue being enriched by other cultures, then we need to encourage equality in Ireland. Equality is about everyone getting the same opportunities and being respected equally. Ireland is still a long way from achieving that.
It doesn’t matter what nationality, religion or cultural background you have, if you’re open-minded and accept diversity then you can help make Ireland a country where there is respect and openness between different nationalities, religions and cultures.
