Hate crime
What to do if you're having serious problems with discrimination or harassment.
If you’re having serious problems with discrimination or harassment you might become the victim of a hate crime. These are attacks motivated by prejudice. It could be because of race, nationality, religion, skin colour, ethnicity or your values.
It might also be because you don’t have religious beliefs or because the attackers believe you belong to a minority group. You should report hate crimes to the Gardaí or police.
Hate crime attacks can be:
- Physical attacks against you or someone you know.
- Damaging your home of property. This could be breaking windows or fences, setting a car on fire, throwing something through your letterbox or damaging your school stuff.
- Verbal abuse or threats. This could be insulting you or your family or threatening to hurt you or someone you care about.
