Gap year ideas

Ideas to make your gap year worthwhile.

Whether you want to take a break after the two years of hardship known as the Leaving Cert, or whether you want to see some of the world and gain life experience, taking a gap year has become increasingly common. If you are of this grouping, don’t let it pass you by, wastefully watching daytime television or getting boozed up with your college mates.

Instead, do something, make it worthwhile and possibly even life changing for yourself and for others. There is so much to be gained by helping others. You could do something wonderful and rewarding in helping those less fortunate. Just get your fundraising hat on and choose a cause. Why not help out in Haiti or bring your skills to Africa with Concern? Your actions could change lives and open your eyes to the way the world works. It’s an experience that would stay with you forever and teach you lifelong lessons along the way.

If going away right now is not so appealing, why not prepare for a future of seeing the world whilst making a difference? Indulge in a short but invaluable TEFL course and set yourself up to teach English as a foreign language. A fully certified TEFL course is invaluable and many courses will even provide you with a list of 8,000 plus prospective jobs. This is massive in an economy where vacancies this large are rare..

Unless you set them, there are no boundaries or limits. It’s up to you to work out what is best for you. The choices are endless; be it helping others, adding to your career possibilities or even testing out the waters in the form of work placements or internships.

The world is an exciting place, make the most of it.
