What next after GCSEs?
Article by : SpunOut.ie - Rating :
As a student in Northern Ireland you need to make decisions about study and career options early: when you take the GCSEs.
Here are some tips to help you figure out what's right for you:
- If you want to study for A levels you need to get decent results and think seriously about what subjects you're going to choose. What are you good at and enjoy the most? What careers are you interested in?
- If you have an idea of what you want to study at university, look at a prospectus to find out what subject entry requirements you need.
- If you're not happy with your results or they aren't good enough to continue studying for A levels then think about taking resits but be realistic about whether you're going to study more or not.
- Apart from A levels there are loads of good options like NVOs, Vocational A Levels and Modern Apprenticeships.
- If you're interested in getting practical skills look at the vocational options and apprenticeships. You'll be choosing between learning on the job or through college.
- Talk to a teacher or careers advisor about what's best for you.
