Anabolic steroids
Get the lowdown on them.
What are Anabolic Steroids: Anabolic steroids are drugs that raise the level of anabolic hormones in the body such as testosterone. This increases the size of cells and then muscles become enlarged.
Are they legal? They are prescription only.
What happens when you take them? They do not immediately affect mood, but it has been suggested that over time they can cause a phenomenon known as “roid rage” where a person becomes aggressive due to excess hormones being produced. Taken regularly, they also increase muscle size as well as sex drive.
Side effects: They can stunt growth if taken by young people/teenagers. They can also cause damage to the heart, liver and kidneys. In women, the excess testosterone can cause excess body hair, a deeper voice and other masculinising effects. These effects may be permanent.
