Experimenting with drugs

Lower the risks of drug taking.

Article by : SpunOut.ie - Rating :

If you're going to use drugs then get to know the dangers beforehand. Here's some information to help lower the risks:

  • Read about the drug you intend to try so you know the effects and health risks.
  • Don't mix drugs and don't drink alcohol if you've taken other drugs.
  • Don't buy drugs from strangers. It's always a huge risk to buy illegal drugs because you don't know what's in the drug but at least try to get them from a friend or someone you know.
  • Tell your friends what you're taking and let them know if you feel sick or worried at any point.
  • Drink about a pint of water every hour. Drink slowly and don't gulp it down. It'll help stop you getting dehydrated or overheated.
  • If you're dancing make sure to drink plenty of water or non-alcoholic drinks. Take regular breaks to chill out and get your breath back.
  • If you plan to try ecstasy, take half a pill instead of a whole one.
  • Don't get carried away and have unprotected sex or end up with strangers that you don't feel comfortable with. Try to always stay with a group of friends.
  • If you're injecting drugs, always have someone with you in case anything goes wrong.
  • Don't take drugs if you're with people you don't feel comfortable with, you're depressed, alone, you have health problems, you're feeling sick or anxious or have something important to do in the next few days.
  • Make sure you trust the people you're with when you take drugs.
