Congrats to SpunOut.ie's SuperHero 2011 Award winners
Blog: Give it up for brothers Christivan and Juvan Maritz!
The lads receiving their €500 bursury from SpunOut.ie Founder, Ruairi McKiernan
In March this year Christivan and Juvan Maritz (17) from Balruddery Wood Balbriggan in Dublin applied for one of SpunOut.ie’s cool SuperHero Grants to help them run their environmental community project Tree Cops. Along with 11 other applicants from around the country they were awarded €250 to help them kick their project into action. The lads' idea aimed to engage their whole community in taking responsibility for the trees in their area.

In the course of their project they ran an adopt a tree programme that they launched with a great street feast in their estate. These two intrepid campaigners also managed to get sponsorship from local businesses and coverage in the local media which helped them to convince the young people in their area to begin to take responsibility for caring for their surrounds.

After much humming and hawing (hee haw!), our panel decided that the effort and commitment and organisation these two activists put into their project and their attention to detail meant that Christivan and Juvan were their choice to jointly receive SpunOut.ie’s Super Hero of the Year 2011 award, which saw them win a bursary of €500 for whatever their next ingenious scheme is. The lads were presented with their award by SpunOut.ie founder Ruairi McKiernan at SpunOut.ie’s Youth Presidential Forum last month.
