Young Environmentalist Awards deadline
Register soon to be part of the Young Environmentalist Awards 2009.
Register online at www.ecounesco.ie by 12 December to be part of the Young Environmentalist Awards 2009.
Each year, young people from across Ireland are honoured for their innovative environmental action projects in the ECO-UNESCO Young Environmentalist awards. Entrants have the opportunity to showcase their work, meet other young environmentalists and celebrities, and win great prizes at the National Showcase and Awards Ceremony in May 2009. All young people aged between 12 and 18 years old are invited to carry out an environmental action project with their schools or youth groups.

In 2008, the overall Junior Young Environmentalist Awards went to young people from St. Catherine's College, Co. Armagh with their project called 'Bee Garden and Bee Beautiful'. The overall Senior Young Environmentalist Awards 2008 went to the young people from St Mary's Secondary School, Mallow, Co. Cork with their project 'Alien plants - should we be concerned'? “It's a brilliant project that really makes you aware of the environment… a great way to get young people involved and interested in environmental issues” said Nuala O'Connor from St. Mary's Secondary School Mallow.
Young people can register their intent to carry out a project online on ECO-UNESCO's website or by contacting ECO-UNESCO's Young Environmentalist Awards Coordinator, Karen Sheeran, on +353 1 6625491 or at yea@ecounesco.ie before or on the 12th December. Closing date for receipt of completed projects is the 27th February 2009.
