Street Feast 2010

Feast on this!

Article by : SpunOut.ie

Street Feast is a day of local lunches around this great country. The feasts will happen on the 18th of July 2010. They will be set up by YOU and your neighbours, relatives, friends etc. The idea is to get a community vibe going, so that your local town/village/estate will all chime in and take part in a lunch.

There are tons of reasons to enjoy a Street Feast, but mostly it’s about having fun, enjoying yourself, celebrating your local community and connecting with people who live near you.

Your lunch can take place in your garden, at a local club, in participation with a local community group or in the park. You can also just take to the streets and have a big bash there.

So, why don’t YOU get out there and set up a nice big feast with your friends/neighbours etc?

Why have a lunch?

  • For fun - It will be good craic to have a party and to meet lots of new people.
  • To celebrate the greatness that is your local area.
  • To get some action going on the streets and to encourage more community events.
  • To shine a light on local communities, networks and clubs.
  • To show what can be done when a bunch of enthusiastic locals get together.
  • To share and show off local customs, local food, home grown produce etc.

How to organise a Street Feast:

  • Start organising it early.
  • Register your Feast at streetfeast.ie to let everyone know all about it.
  • Print out some flyers from the Street Feast website.
  • Tell your neighbours all about it.
  • Organise a meeting with your neighbours and see who has what. Maybe you need to borrow some tables from some people for example.
  • Ask people what they are good at making and get them to bring it along!
  • Find a location for the Street Feast.
  • Grow some grub for it by planting some seeds. GIY Ireland has more info on this type of thing.
  • Ask local shops and supermarkets if they will let you park your cars for free there that day.
  • Get the word out on the street by letting local newspapers and radio stations know all about your Street Feast.
