Science week

Science isn't just what you learn in school you know!

Article by : SpunOut.ie

Over 350 events are to take place nationwide during the national Science week. This year the theme is 'the science behind entertainment'- filling us in on the science stuff that goes on behind areas of entertainment including movies, music and sport.

The aim of Science week is to promote the message that science, engineering and technology are relevant to us all in our everyday lives and to communicate that these areas contribute hugely to the Irish economy through the development of cutting edge innovations and the provision of skilled jobs.

Events will take place in libraries, schools, college campuses, on the street, in nature reserves, parks and retail outlets all over Ireland. Some of this year's many exciting initiatives include in-store events in Hughes & Hughes bookstores and Xtra-Visions nationwide, a regional Cinemobile tour showing the latest "claymation" movie favourite, Wallace & Gromit, and explaining the science behind "claymation", a travelling roadshow on the sound of science, as well as a host of workshops covering everything from sound waves to animation, film-making, music and astronomy.
