What picture works?

This year The Picture Works is hosting its 2nd annual art competition. The competition is free to enter. Anyone may enter one piece of artwork, and if you have ever been a client of The Picture Works you may enter up to 3 pieces of artwork.

The theme for this year's competition is "What picture works?" The closing date for entries is Wednesday, May 5th at noon. The judges will choose one overall winner who will win First Prize. The judges will then choose a shortlist of runners-up (maximum 15 persons) who will be eligible to win The Peoples' Choice Award which is voted for by the public. The winner of The People’s Choice Award will win Second Prize.

How to enter

To enter the competition you need to read and understand the rules of the compettion. Once you are happy that you understand the rules, you can upload your artwork directly to The Picture Works server.

This competition is...

1. A great opportunity for artists to gain exposure
2. A way to show the art world, peers, and fans your best work
3. Free to enter
4. A great chance to win €1,000 as well as City Card and i-site campaigns

This competition is not...

1. A stock grab. Your images will not be used in any context without your permission. Last year, the winning images were used to create a slideshow on The Picture Works website, Facebook account and blog. You will be credited as the originator of the piece and copyright remains with you.

The Prizes

First Prize: €1,000 cash as well as a Nationwide City Card campaign (worth over €10,000) and an i-site campaign (worth over €15,000)

Second Prize: also known as The Peoples' Choice Award is a nationwide City Card campaign (worth over €10,000) and an i-site campaign (worth over €9,000)

There will be a special Thames and Hudson Prize for selected entries.

Runner-up Prizes will be announced in the coming weeks.

A note about the prizes

City Card campaign: The Picture Works has over 300 postcard racks around the country in bars, cafes and restaurants. These racks are filled with advertising postcards that are free to pick up. If you win a nationwide City Card campaign this means we will be printing and distributing 50,000 postcards with your winning image in these racks.

i-site campaign: The Picture Works has over 750 A1 illuminated poster sites in pubs, bars and clubs throughout Ireland. The overall competition winner will win printing and distribution of 100 posters. Second prize/Peoples' Choice Award will win printing and distribution of 50 posters.
