Can you take an award winning picture of social diversity in Ireland?

Article by : SpunOut.ie

If you live or visit the Dún Laoghaire - Rathdown area than you might be in with a chance to win €2,000 in prizes. The Dún Laoghaire – Rathdown (DLR) library service is running a photo competition that asks you to photograph people or places in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown representing social inclusion and diversity.

The competition runs until October 3rd and printed entries along with completed application forms are accepted in all DLR local libraries and the County Hall in Dún Laoghaire.

The competition organisers want to see photographs that emphasise social diversity. Through acting inclusively we can try to ensure that everyone feels a part of the community - no matter their age, ability, nationality, religion, or any of the many other characteristics which makes our society diverse.

This could mean capturing people going about their daily business - images of the 'every day' which, to you, demonstrates how social inclusion is alive and well within our community. Or this could mean challenging the notion of inclusion and using a photograph to question how inclusive a society we really are. Or it could mean snapping images which highlight the growing diversity of the county.

It's up to you!!!

The entries will be judged on originality and how well they speak to the competition theme. They will also be assessed on technical merit and originality.

Each entrant can submit three photographs. The prizes awarded will be €750 for first place, €500 for second and €250 for 3rd place. The EU Year for Intercultural Dialogue prize will be a separate €500. First, second, and third place prizes will be awarded and short listing will apply.
