On Thursday 15th November the Base Youth centre will hold a MAD Event – Media Awareness Day in the Ballyfermot Community Civic Centre, Ballyfermot, Dublin 10 from 10am – 3pm. The aim of the day is to encourage young people to be more aware of the ever evolving media word in which they are living and to encourage them to begin to consider their level of media literacy.

This event is open to all teenagers living in the Dublin 10 area.  On the day there will an opportunity to take part in numerous media activities including: journalism workshops, animation workshops, photography, Wii demonstrations, Bebo access and much more.

“We support the philosophy that young people should be more aware of the world in which they are living, as part of our media initiatives, we encourage young people to continue to question the world in which they inhabit. We hope that the MAD day will be informative, interesting and fun for all involved. ,” Natasha, MAD Day Co-ordinator said.

This event has kindly been sponsored by an educational grant from SPY - Special Projects for Youth, from Department of Education.

The Base is currently building a state-of-the-art 12,000 square ft facility in Ballyfermot to cater for young people in the area. It will include a fully fitted recording studio, rehearsal space and new media suite along with a theatre / performance venue, health suite and internet café.
